I’m Catching Hell, Part I

I broke one of my own nappy hair routine rules. Now, in the words of Natalie Cole, I’m catching hell. I don’t even want to touch my hair because I feel guilty … because I knew better.

Have you ever had one of those days where one minute everything is on schedule and the next minute Old Man Time puts crack in you cornflakes when you weren’t looking? You just KNEW you had 2 hours to do what you needed to do, instead of the 25 minutes that lying Old Man was screaming.

Well this is how most of my week has been. I jumped in the shower to wash my hair and thought, ‘I’m out of the wash-out conditioner, so I’ll just use the leave-in conditioner I’d just discovered I had’. I thought about how lucky I was to find the leave-in conditioner in such a time pinch. I proceeded to clarify my hair, in other words, got it squeaky clean.

However, when I finished my shower and removed the towel from my head, I saw that I had actually found a wash-out hair conditioner.

Determined not to break my stride, I thought, ‘Well I’ll just go without conditioner today’. And I did …

… and I shouldn’t have …

My hair was so matted and lifeless.

But, it was my own fault. If you had an Aston Martin V12 Vanquish and did not supply it with fluids, it would not perform as it was designed to perform. Was it the V12′s fault? No. It was yours.

Ask yourself this: if your nappy hair is not living up to its full potential, could it be because it is not getting what it needs? In my case, my hair was thirsty and pleading in a raspy, sad voice, “Moisture … moisture … moisture …” And I ignored it.

Until now.
