Detangling Nappy Hair

This is a step by step guide to detangling nappy, napptural, or natural hair at home. One of the most prevailent questions about nappy hair is how to detangle it. There are a few ways to detangle nappy hair. You will need a WIDE tooth detangling comb. Make sure the comb does not have any minute sharp edges along the teeth. This will destroy your hair! You will also need a detangler. You could make some at home. Simply use a spray bottle filled with water and 2 – 3 drops of vegetable glycerin. You could also buy a detangler like Aussie Slip Detangler, Biolage Detangling Solution, or LeKair Cholesterol Plus Aloe Conditioner.

Wet Detangling Method

1. Wash and condition your hair.
2. With your hair drenched, fingercomb into at least 6 sections.
3. Generously apply detangler throughout each of these sections.
4. Starting from the ENDS of your hair, use the comb to gently detangle by combing through this section until you reach the root. You may have to repeat this step more than once.
5. You should now be able go from root to the ends of the section without much issue.

Dry Detangling Method

1. Start with clean, dry hair.
2. Fingercomb into at least 6 sections.
3. Generously apply detangler throughout each of these sections.
4. Starting from the ENDS of your hair, use the comb to gently detangle by combing through this section until you reach the root. You may have to repeat this step more than once.
5. You should now be able go from root to the ends of the section without much issue.
