Maintaining your Sport Compact’s Tire Pressure

Step 1: Find your ride maker’s recommended tire pressure on your tire information placard or your owner’s manual.

Step 2: Write down the tire pressure of all of your tires.

Step 3: If the tire pressure is too high in any of your tires, slowly release some air. You can do this by gently pressing on the tire valve stem with the edge of your tire gauge until you get to the right pressure.

Step 4: If the tire pressure is too low, pay attention to the difference between the pressure reading you just took and the pressure it is suppose to be. These ‘missing’ pounds of pressure are what you will need to add.

Step 5: Go to a service station and add the missing pounds of air pressure to each tire that is low.

Step 6: Check all the tires to make sure they have the same air pressure.

If you have been driving and think that a tire is under-inflated, fill it to the recommended cold inflation pressure. While your tire may still be slightly under-inflated because of the extra pressure of a warm tire, it is safer to drive with air pressure that is a little bit low than very low. Do not forget to recheck and adjust the tire pressure when you can do a cold reading.
