Is nappy (natural) hair strong and tough?
Nappy hair is actually FRAGILE and DELICATE! Nappy hair has many coils, curls, spirals, and bends which are vulnerable to breakage at these particulars juncture of the hair shaft.
Does grease make your hair grow?
Grease does NOT make your hair grow. Grease coats the hair shaft, thus, preventing moisture from penetrating your hair. In essence, it causes your hair to die of thirst. Grease also clog your pores, thus, hindering hair growth. Grease also acts like flypaper by attracting dirt, lint, and product residue.
Is napptural (natural) hair coarse?
When most people refer to natural hair as COARSE, what they are referring to is hair TEXTURE. Hair texture is the measure of the thickness of a hair strand. These measurements are classified as coarse, medium, or fine. Having coarse, medium, and fine textures is NOT race specific. It differs per individual. Many people of many ethnic groups may have all three textures on one head! This is not unusual.
How often should Black or Biracial people I wash their hair?
This is an individual choice. Keeping the hair clean is the goal, so listen to your hair. The important thing to know is that Black or Biracial can wash their hair EVERYDAY if they want to.
Is there an inexpensive way to get rid of dandruff at home?
Mix a spray bottle of warm water and LITTLE bit of regular old white vinegar. Spray this mixture onto your scalp and let it sit for approximately 5 minutes. Wash your hair and style as usual.
Can I reverse my hair relaxer?
Despite lots of old wives tales, there is no way to REVERSE a hair relaxer or perm. To get the hair back to its natural state, you must either grow the relaxer out or cut off the relaxed hair.
Should I use hair grease for my dry scalp?
Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting enough essential fatty acids. Do NOT use products that contain petrolatum, petroleum, or mineral oil on your scalp. Do NOT use grease on your hair or scalp, instead use jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is similar to sebum, which is your hair’s natural oil. It can be used directly on the scalp or mixed with water to spray on your scalp.
My hair is thinning and receding around the edges. Is there anything I can do?
Alopecia is a common medical term for baldness. Traction alopecia is a form of alopecia, or gradual hair loss, typically caused by pulling the hair too tight for extended periods of time. If you wear styles that are heavy and/or pulled tight, or wear hats or other headdresses that may rub the hair around your edges, then stop. Wear styles like an Afro, that do not restrain your hair. If you use heat on your hair, stop. Heat will dry your hair and make it more brittle and damaged. To attempt to encourage your edges to grow, keep your scalp clean and your hair conditioned. You can gently massage Vitamin E or Tea Tree Oil on your scalp. Make sure to be very gentle any time you handle you hair. Remember, it is always a good idea to consult a medical professional for any type of hair loss.
I have heard Apple Cider Vinegar is beneficial to my hair. Is this true?
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) helps to detangle hair. It maintains the pH level of your hair and remove product build-up. It has a strong fragrance that will disappear shortly after use.
Is caustic soda, or lye a common active ingredient in hair relaxers?
Lye (sodium hydroxide) is often used to decompose complex molecular bonds such as the protein of your hair. Lye is also the active ingredient in Drano drain declogger. Use gloves and eye protection when using sodium hydroxide (lye), since there is a high probability of getting chemical burns, scars, and even blindness.
Bonus: My child has nappy hair. The best thing to do is to perm it, right?
The best thing you can do for your child and her hair is to keep it nappy. Stop expecting in to behave in a way in which it was not intended. Affirm to you child how beautiful and worthy she is from the top of her head to the tip of her toes. … And don’t forget to have FUN with it. Nappy hair is AWESOME!
