Nappy Hairstyles: Nappy Wash & Go
This is a step by step guide to the Wash and Go style for nappy, napptural, or natural hair of African descent at home. All great hair styles begin with clean, healthy hair. You will get bedhead when you sleep, but it only takes a few minutes in the morning to recreate your Wash and Go style.
How To Create a Wash and Go Style
- 1. Wash your hair in the shower.
- 2. Condition well.
- 3. Use COOL water on the last rinse for shine.
- 4. While hair is DRENCHED, apply a humectant, like vegetable glycerine, in order to retain moisture. Use a SMALL amount, otherwise, the result may be too greasy.
- 5. Close your eyes.
- 6. Shake your head back and forth four or five times. Do NOT touch your hair NOR use a towel on your hair because you want to keep your coils as defined as possible.
- 7. Simply put a towel around your neck to catch the drips.
- 8. Let your hair air dry.
Wash and Go Tips: You can either wear you hair as-is, or finger-pick your hair. You may experience a bit of bed-head with this style. Not to worry. Simply spend 5-7 minutes each morning in the shower to recreate the style. With nappy hair, you will experience shrinking as it dries. Shrinkage is when the hair coils up when the weather is humid or when the hair gets damp. Shrinkage is NOT bad. When styling your hair, use it to your advantage. Experiment. It is simply a fact of life for ANYONE with nappy, wavy, or curly hair!
