Tire Placards and PSI
What does the psi number on your tire placard have to do with the safety of your tires? What are the dangers of under-inflating or over-inflating?
The psi, or pounds per square inch, number on your tire placard tells you the maximum pressure you should put into your tires. Under-inflating and over-inflating is not a good idea. Over-inflating tires can make your car harder to handle and the ride not as smooth. Under-inflating tires can cause your tires to over heat causing irregular wear and tire failure. Just look in your owner’s manual to find out what your tire pressure should be and fill accordingly using a simple tire gauge.
