How do I transition from permed to natural hair?

You can transition from relaxed back to natural hair. This means that you will STOP perming your hair and just be patient while it grows out. During this transitioning period, you still need to care for BOTH the natural and the relaxed hair. The place where the permed and natural hair meet is VERY weak and must be handled with care or it will break! You must remember to keep both types of hair moisturized, minimize pulling hard during styling, and minimize applying ANY heat to the hair.

When new growth gets to a length that you feel you can style, cut off the RELAXED hair. Remember, the length of time it takes to transition depends on how strong and healthy the hair is. Generally, the stronger her hair, the longer you can stay in transition. If the hair is weak and starts to get even more unhealthy the next option may be the best scenario. Your other option to get rid of the perm is to simply cut it off! This is commonly called The Big Chop, or TBC, or the BC.
