Biracial – For the Sake of Argument

As a happily nappy African American mom of two biracial children I am often asked my advice about how to care for unprocessed African hair. Many of these questions come from Caucasian and Black moms who either are: A. considering relaxing their daughter’s hair B. considering getting rid of their daughter’s relaxed hair, or C. nervous moms-to-be of a Black or biracial daughter (and stressing over the hair;).

It is extremely important that our daughters be proud of and accept themselves COMPLETELY.

The Nappy Hair portion of this site is for moms of all nationalities and ethnic groups who would like to learn more about caring for their daughter’s natural hair at home. Please understand, my focus is on sharing with you how to accept, love, appreciate, and care for their hair.

Now let’s get on the same sheet of music: In general, the term ‘biracial’ means a person has 2 racial backgrounds. For the purpose of this site, ‘biracial’ will be used to refer to children who have any amount of African heritage which is evident by the appearance of their hair. And for those of you who don’t know it, when it comes to Black girls and hair — it’s never just hair. It goes a lot deeper than that…

This blog uses a little humor to encourage moms to embrace their daughters’ wonderfully nappy, napptural, natural hair. Glad to see you here. Come on in, have a seat, and I’ll fix you a tall glass of iced tea.

Let’s talk about this thing called a nappy kitchen.
